Their Ceramic Resistance
Elements, Mineral Insulated Thermocouple Sensors, Resistance
Temperature Detectors, Slot Resistance Thermometers were considered
as the standard in the world. Their research and testing facilities
were the most comprehensive in the world. Thus

DE (Degussa) + TRIV (Trivedi) = DETRIV |
was born. After the Chernobyl Atomic Plant explosion in Russia,
they were awarded the contract of surveying all the nuclear power
stations in Europe to suggest suitable modifications to make these
more safe. They executed these large quantity orders of high precision
and long life temperature sensors almost on an exclusive basis. Not
only from the business point of view, but also from the point of view
of high technology level, we were
extremely happy to get the approval from Degussa
as well as the Government of India for bringing such high
level technology to India. Degussa is a multinational company
with its main interest in the chemical field and additional substantial
production in the field of instrumentation
technology, precious metals switch gear contacts, etc, etc.
Unfortunately because of high level deliberations Degussa decided
to concentrate their activities only in the core sector of chemicals
and give up all other non-core activities. Thus, the temperature
sensor division was also hived off and after going through
various acquisitions and mergers, is now finally with ABB
Automation Products GmbH. They were also agreeable to sell
off the 35% equity participation, and Detriv is now 100% in ownership
of the family. Even now we are in touch with all ex-employees of Degussa,
most of whom are retired and we are getting their advice whenever
necessary. We also continue to represent the sensor
division of Degussa which as mentioned above belongs to the
ABB Group.
Mr. N.R. Trivedi, founder of the
firm is a self-made technocrat who
after a brilliant academic career,
having completed his M.Sc. (Tech.), Manchester,
U.K. in 1955 with distinction, obtained a variety of work
experience in West Germany, where he first trained with the
then world renowned instrumentation systems firm of M/s. AGE, Germany.
Later on he joined a privately owned medium size instrumentation
firm in West Berlin in the Technical
Sales Department, where he rose to be the Marketing
Manager with Procura rights
in a short span of 2 years. Not only professionally, but also personally
he started his career in Germany when he married his German wife
and had 2 sons both born in West-Berlin and who are actively involved
in business today.
In 1964, he joined an Indian Multinational
concern in Switzerland as the Vice
President (European Operations) where he worked for 5 years
and here he got first hand experience of the various facets of business
in India and the European region as this concern had a diverse range
of interests in various fields. The entrepreneurship
bug had bitten him and he returned to India in October, 1968
after 16 years of education and work experience in Europe and initiated
perhaps one of the first cases of reverse
brain-drains.
The firm is professionally managed by qualified technical personnel in manufacturing and marketing fields. Besides this, his two sons Harit N. Trivedi, B.Com. and Sharad N. Trivedi M.Sc. (Electronics), who have practically grown up with the firm and were deeply involved in the firms affairs even while studying and are looking after the firm, aiming to bring the firm to even greater heights. |
